Why did you choose to list your genetics on Wali-World Seedbank?
Coincidentally I’m from the Midwest, SW Michigan / NW Indiana area and I just left for NY in 2016 for a job. My home boy still lives there and kept hearing about you, and encouraging me to level up and leave at my gear with you. After some real fear and a near miss on getting kicked of IG I made the call and got setup. Best decision ever. Rates are good and the drop ship system really makes sense. I don’t have to wholesale or do consignment, so I’m in full control of the sales, customer service, stock, shipping… it’s great!
What was the reason you started creating cannabis genetics? Is there anyone in the Cannabis industry you look up to, if so, why?
Honestly weed wasn’t getting me medicated. Not even dispo bud. I got some freebies from another grower that were from Katsu Bluebird and no shit, at 42 years old I made more progress in therapy and personally from a fat cone of Head Smog than I had made in years. I suffer from C-PTSD so when I need to stop a spiral of intrusive thoughts, eating/sleeping issues I needywds to work. And that Head Smog worked, well. From there I started researching strains and got my hands on Staten Island Chem x Sour Diesel from Katsu and went for it. Katsu doesn’t play. He’s got some serious gear and pushes f1 cross legs out from known good parents (untested) but it’s his way of preventing his prized parents from getting around and also offers killer strains to run and breed with. A lot of his gear has good breeding potential so I’ve used a couple of his strains. I definitely look up to him as a role model and solid fucking business man. Mad respect.
What is your favorite cannabis podcast or show?
Here’s where my age shows…. The Grow Boss on YouTube back about 10-12 years ago was where it all “clicked” for me. Watched his videos multiple times. Also Urban Remo in Canada. Amazing grower. Blew my mind to see his garden. Then last but not least, Joshua Steensland. His method for maintenance free, no-till, living soil changed me forever. He got away with growing some of the dankest bud I’ve seen to date using blumats, worms, cover crop, and no nutrients. Even left the grow unattended for 8 days once week 3 flower. Mind blown. I still try to mimic that shit in cloth pots but have found my own way with organic inputs especially fermented fruit juices and pelleted garden lime and gypsum. Regenerative soil is the way.
What is the favorite cannabis cross you have created and why?
Probably has to be Staten Island Lem (Lemon Kush x Staten Island Chem x Sour Diesel). It was my first cross, had a high herm rate, but the female plants that made it to the finish were insane in the way of effects and terps. That went on to make more and I just learned SO MUCH during that run I hold it high in my mind as the one that made me realize what breeding could do for me and other consumers. Honestly what weed is capable of… and it’s not magic and hype it’s simply good genetics and a solid process in the garden.
What are your goals for creating cannabis genetics?
Well as I said I’m a medical patient and registered caregiver in NY. So first it’s creating strains for effects and relief. Second it’s making good solid genetics available to the home growers and medical patients/caregivers they can trust to do well, and have the effects to back up the claim. Nobody should have to go through a shady source for good genetics or pay high prices for them. The challenge is between the growers and their gardens, not between the sales channels and your wallet. Also education. Id like to basically bundle my grow techniques and knowledge with the genetics for the growers to achieve success. Then most importantly get folks to “enjoy their grow”. Honestly the gardening is half the therapeutic value to me and I think it should be for everyone else that decides to grow too.
Where can you find out more about JDiesel?
I put a lot of time into my personal IG page, especially the daily stories. It’s not the best tool, but for now its giving me food “reach” to get to people all around the world. Get them excited about growing, excited about my gear, and successful in their grows whether it with my gear or not. I just launched my LLC too so there’s a store in the works now for merch I plan to build up… and I’ve also created a Business page on IG. This year I’ll be launching my own site with e-commerce capabilities, blogs, forums, educational content etc. so definitely stay tuned. For now my IG is on fire and I’ve got a really loyal group of followers that are all very helpful to new faces. My whole strategy is community building, team and collaboration initiatives, and supporting local wherever possible. Right now I’m basically calling the Midwest to the East Coast my “local” market and that’s awesome. With prohibition in the past the community part was dangerous and non-existent (unless you’re an outlaw rebel mfr lol) so being able to be out in the cannabis community is my main objective.
